OLD SCHOOL REVIEWS: 11 September 2011

Quick rundown of all the movies I watched recently:
Final Destination 3 (2006)
The Final Destination (2009)
True Adolescents (2009)
Hall Pass (2011)
Your Highness (2011)

Full reviews after the jump...

Movie:
In Short:
A very cool opening kill scene involving a roller coaster, and nothing noteworthy outside of that.  It does have one of the most over the top kill scenes involving some tanning booths, and as I've said before, that is really all I'm looking for from this series.
Bagpipe-o-Meter:
5.0/10

Movie:
In Short:
It is clear in this film that the series is running on fumes.  The fourth installment seems to take a somewhat comical turn, with a much more light hearted feel that the first three films, and kill scenes that are far more unrealistic.  Not looking promising going into the fifth film...
Bagpipe-o-Meter:
3.5/10

Movie:
In Short:
Seeing Mark Duplass (from The League, one of the funniest shows on television) and Melissa Leo (2011 Best Supporting Actress winner from The Fighter) on the cast list inspired me to watch this on Netflix.  It follows a burnout wanna be rock star as he is forced to move in with his Aunt.  The movie has some bright spots, but an up and down plot and a not-so-likeable main character prevent it from being anything memorable.
Bagpipe-o-Meter:
4.0/10

Movie:
Hall Pass (2011)
In Short:
Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis are two of the most likeable actors in the game.  Pair them with Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate and you are bound to get at least a couple laughs, and a couple laughs is really all Hall Pass provides.  The quality cast overshadows the movies flaws, and a slightly above comedy emerges.
Bagpipe-o-Meter:
5.5/10

Movie:
In Short:
Your Highness is a great idea that falls flat on its face.  Combine the sudden success of Danny McBride with a Medieval action film and you should have a one of kind film, but the immaturity of the humor is simply too much and the presence of respected actors (France, Portman) just bring light to how bad everything else is.  That being said, I did laugh out loud a number of times, but I'm immature so that only solidifies my opinion.
Bagpipe-o-Meter:
3.5/10
